Why Uganda?

Gorillas

Uganda is the number one destination in the world to experience the thrill of seeing the mountain gorilla, but there is so much more to this beautiful land. This lush green country is home to over 15 species of primate including the Chimpanzee Pan troglodytes and over 1000 species of bird. And although Uganda is one of the prime destinations for primates and birds, it also offers unique glimpses of more typical African wildlife such as zebra, elephant, lion, leopard giraffe and the antelopes.

Chimpanzees

The chimpanzee, known to share more genes with humans than any other creature, has an extensive range in Uganda. Either enjoy these fascinating creatures in an island sanctuary at Ngamba Island, or see them in the wild in some of Uganda's forests. There are habituated chimpanzees in the Queen Elizabeth National Park or in Kibale National Park.

Thousands of Birds

If birding is your passion then Uganda is a must see destination. There are over a thousand (1000) species in an area the size of the UK. Twenty-three (23) Albertine Rift Endemics (including the African Green Broadbill Pseudocalyptomena graueri) are recorded in Uganda's Bwindi National Park (home of the Mountain Gorilla). Couple a trip to see the endangered Mountain Gorilla with some of the best birding in the world for a combined interest holiday.

Not a mini bus safari

Spend some time in Uganda's Albertine Rift Valley National Parks. Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls National Parks are two of the most scenically spectacular National Parks in Africa. With many species unique to these parks, a visit to either means an exclusive wildlife experience. Even better, these parks are a pleasant change from the often over crowded parks in East Africa.

A green environment

Different from the stereotypical dry image of Africa, Uganda enjoys middle to high elevation and a tropical climate. This climate ensures lush green landscapes which stay with you throughout your journey.

When to go

Clint's personal opinion is that the best time to visit Uganda is at the beginning of the rains, usually in March and September. If you cannot make it then, visit sometime between June and September - the long dry season.
